So last night I hit the local movie theatre to catch the latest Josh Brolin and Sean Penn period piece. "Gangster Squad" . Taking place in HOLLYWOODLAND* in 1949 post WWII when Chicago Mobster Mickey Cohen has setup shop and back home is "shooting the bird" to the Crime Bosses that set him up. He's wrecking havoc on The "City Of Angels" and has politicians and some cops in his pocket. Enter the Chief of Police (Nick Nolte) who assigned Brolin, an ex war hero to form the "Ganster Squad" and take out the threat, not by killing Cohen, but rather cost him money and derail his operation. Also starring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Robert Patrick Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Pena, the movie is a little over the top, but I LOVE period pieces and this one has a stunning look of realism that hit my hot button!

If you like action, you'll love THE GANSTER SQUAD!

*The Hollywood sign originally said HOLLYWOODLAND, until the word land was damaged and after falling was never replaced due to lack of funds. Ever see the movie, Hollywoodland with Ben Affleck?
