"Safe Haven" : A Movie Review-Jack Daniel

I did not see the Notebook! I don't typically like sad, depressing stories whether it be in movies, books or TV! I did, however wait 6 months for "Safe Haven" to open and here's why!

Early in August of 2012, We were vacationing at Oak Island, N.C. where the day we arrived they were wrapping up filming of "Iron Man 3" on the beach there! Dang it! Missed it by.... "this much"!

Never fear though, as N.C.'s film business is now booming, at nearby Southport, N.C. they were filming "Safe Haven" which my wife and her friend had both read and OMG!....Josh Duhamel was starring in. I know Josh from "Vegas" and "Transformers" and the girls knew him from being married to Fergie from "Black Eyed Peas".

So, one day we took an excursion to see the movie sets at Southport! It was August but the town was all decorated up for the 4th of July parade scene that is basically the movie's climax. We never saw the stars but at a wine bar (you know me), we heard stories from locals of how nice the stars, Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough, were when they come in for their wine fix.

So mere curiosity drove me to the movies on Valentines Day to see "Safe Haven" so I could see the streets of Southport that I walked on that hot August day. Now to the movie! I'd give it 3 of 5 stars in that it was not what I expected. It had a "thriller" aspect and a twist that took this from an ordinary chick flick to something that a guy can see and not be too embarrassed about. It was neat seeing places you had actually been and how they looked on film.

All in all, a good date movie! So guys, when your significant other asks you to go to the movies and she won't see DIE HARD, suggest this and you'll be ok! The movie will do great at the box office, even better on DVD! Large combo with a diet Coke and a box of Goobers please! I'll see you at the movies!
